Baby crochet patterns
Crochet baby patterns are an all time favorite. There is a decided advantage over knitting – you don’t have to face the humdrum of picking up dropped stitches. This happens too often when there are small children in the house.
A basic baby set has a bonnet, a set of booties, a sacque and a blanket or carriage cover. Other things you can make are christening sets, bibs, baby buntings, jumpsuits, pram sets, receiving blankets, afghans (afghans are heavy crocheted or knitted shawls), Ponchos…
Decide if you are looking to make something as a fashion accessory or an essential item of clothing.
- If your project is an essential item of clothing to keep a baby warm, choose a pattern with the stitches close together and the appropriate yarn.
- If your project however is a fashion accessory, your choice is unlimited.
- Lastly remember to choose a pattern to suit your skill level.
Square motifs are a quick and easy way to making blankets and ponchos.
- A motif is made up of stitches worked around a center ring.
- The motif need not necessarily be symmetrical.
- Each motif is complete in itself and can either be used singly or pieced together to form an overall pattern.
- The most popular motifs are the square ones also called granny squares. Motifs are also ideal for using left –over yarn as each round can be worked in a different colour.
- All you need to do is piece together a few square motifs leaving an opening for the head. The figure below will give you an idea.
- You can increase the number of motifs or the size of the motifs or both as per your requirement. This is an ideal baby garment – getting it on and off a baby is totally fuss-free.
