Crochet bag pattern
This combination of Tunisian crochet and chain stitch is not as complicated as it looks.
Abbreviations:
Yarn over hook – y.o.h
Chain – ch
Double crochet – dc
Treble crochet - tr
Directions:
Work 2 pieces as follows.
Make 72 chains
Row 1: Insert hook into the second chain from hook, y.o.h draw loop through and leave on hook, * insert the hook into the next chain, y.o.h draw loop through and leave on hook; repeat from * until the end of the row; 1 ch.
Row 2: y.o.h draw loop through the first 2 loops on hook, * y.o.h draw loop through the next 2 loops, repeat from * until only 1 loop remains on hook.
Row 3: 2 ch, skip 1 stitch, * insert hook through the vertical line of the next y.o.h draw loop through, 1 ch, skip next stitch, repeat from * until the end of row.
Row 4: 2 ch, y.o.h, draw loop through the first 2 loops on hook, * 1 ch, y.o.h draw loop through the next 2 loops on hook, repeat from * until only 1 loop remains on hook.
Repeat rows 3 – 4 until the piece measures 15” in length. Cut and fasten.
Finishing:
With wrong sides of work facing each other, join the 2 pieces together on three sides using dc - making sure the last rows of both pieces are the sides not joined.
Row 1: 1 dc into the 1st dc, * skip next 2 dc, 5 tr into the next dc, skip 2 dc, 1 dc into the next dc, repeat from * completing all the 3 sides ending with a dc in the last dc; 3 ch, turn.
Row 2: 2 tr into the same space as 3 ch, * 1 dc into the 3rd tr of 5 tr, 5 tr into the next dc, repeat from * ending with 3 tr into the last dc. Cut and fasten.
Use a satin ribbons threaded through the gaps in the last row to draw the bag close. You can embellish this bag with Irish crochet roses or daisies and leaves.
